About Us
Drama Christi is a co-operative theatre group based at Wesley Church, Taranaki St, Wellington.
We present plays, dance and mime that stimulate and challenge the audience as well as entertain. The choice ranges from modern plays through classical theatre, spoken poetry, dance drama, musicals to Shakespeare.
We perform in our own Studio, or in Wesley Church, contributing occasionally to services in the Church, such as Christmas and Easter. We are sometimes invited to present a performance elsewhere, often as part of another event.
Drama Christi has been active for over 65 years and a network of ‘friends of Drama Christi’ extends throughout New Zealand – and beyond.
Our usual meeting and rehearsal time is each Monday at 7.30pm, with additional rehearsals closer to the show.
Who Can Join?
We are always looking for new actors and crew to join our theatre group.
Right now we’d especially love to hear from people interested in developing skills in the areas of:
- Lighting
- Sound
- Wardrobe
- Set Design and Construction
No experience needed, just enthusiasm. Mentoring will be provided.
Anyone who wishes to join is welcome to take part – Some of us are very experienced, some just beginners. Some prefer being on stage, while some prefer backstage or wardrobe work.
All ages take part – Drama Christi is in many ways a family. Everybody contributes whatever they have to offer to the common goal. Any child may join, although younger children must be accompanied by an adult.
No-one gets paid, and there is no subscription. There are no auditions involved, it is all about developing new skills and having fun. The only requirement is an ability to get along well and co-operatively with others.
Please get in touch if you’d like to join us, or if you have any questions!
