Join our July production!

This is an invite from Drama Christi for you to join Chris Fisher in putting on The Big Blue Planet Earth Show.  BBPE was first performed in March 1991 during the Fringe Festival at Bats Theatre in Wellington, directed by Gary Henderson.  It is a quite confronting and thought provoking piece about the environmental issues of the time.  Sadly those issues are still confronting us now with even more urgency.  Having said that there are heaps of funny moments throughout the play.

Play Perusal, Rehearsals and Performances

We will be having a look at the play on Monday, 18 March 2019, at the Drama Christi studio, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.  Come and join us for that even if you are not sure you want to take part.  Rehearsals will be on Mondays from 1 April 2019.  From 6 May 2019 rehearsals will be on Mondays and Thursdays.  Performances will be from 12 to 21 July 2019.  Double check that you can make all the performances dates before committing!  There can be some leeway with rehearsals.  Initially not everyone will be required for every rehearsal.

The Play

I plan to set it back in 1991 as it was written at the time.  There are three interweaving stories.  The first around four 12 yr old children writing a school project about endangered species.  The second is around an endangered species of monkey and those who slaughter them for their own gains.  The third is about a space shuttle tasked with taking a satellite into space, but what is it about that satellite ...

In the original performances there were just 4 actors playing a myriad of parts.  We will be using as many interested actors as we have, who can pick up as many or as few parts as they feel comfortable with.  My plan is to use 4 mid to late teen actors to pick up the children's parts and then divvy up the rest amongst the adults.  The children's parts are quite specific.  I am particularly looking for a young Maori woman, perhaps mid to late teens, but who can play a young 12 yr old.  There are also a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, and a third girl.  No prior experience or auditioning is required.  Just a strong commitment to give it a go.

We are always looking for new (and old) talent to work behind the scenes to help out with things like set, wardrobe, sound and lighting.  Support and mentoring will be offered.  Now is your chance to try something new!

I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Monday, 18 March.  Drag your friends along!  Any questions let me know by email or mobile.
